PHILIP DORLING
WRITER + DIRECTOR
Philip’s feature film writing/directing debut WHY STOP NOW starring Oscar Nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Melissa Leo, and Tracy Morgan premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was picked up for distribution by IFC and released in theaters. Philip’s acclaimed student short film PREDISPOSED played at the Sundance film festival as a prelude to the feature film, also starring Melissa Leo.
Philip got his start working on locally made films in his hometown of Woodstock, NY. At 19 he interned in the art department on a film called RACING DAYLIGHT starring David Strathairn and Giancarlo Esposito. Phil quickly realized how much he loved the tireless act of filmmaking and continued to work on several other local productions, including being a personal assistant/production assistant to Phillipe Petit during the making of MAN ON WIRE.
Philip set a goal that defined his purpose in life at age twenty, to make the feature version of his short film Predisposed by the time he turned twenty-five. He did just that, starting his first day of post-production the day after his twenty-fifth birthday.
Philip now splits his time between writing, developing and directing narrative films while exploring interesting themes and aesthetics in short form works and music. Phil has worked as a writer, director, and art director on a vast array of projects ranging from short films, to feature films, music videos, commercials, and book to film adaptations. Phil’s strengths lie in character driven stories, heartfelt humanity, and the burning desires that lead us as people to our brightest triumphs and our darkest truths.
